living the desk jockey life…
Sunday, April 13th, 2008 at 12:32 pmNothing stifles creativity quite like a desk job!
Well, at least that’s how it seems to me.
Granted, I’ve been in a fortunate whilrwind of jobs within Macrina Bakery for the past few months, so I really ought not complain. The company is awesome, the people I work with are a riot, and a get a free loaf of AMAZING bread every week to boot! My current title is “Catering Coordinator”, but there is a lot of non-catering miscellany that gets handed off to me each day, so I’m always doing something different.
How do other artists do this? Having a full time job is taxing when you count in the commuting and the winding down time! Its been a real struggle to create anything worthwhile since I started here, but I’m still getting used to my work schedule plus roller derby ( which is basically a part time job in itself). Hopefully, if anyone is keeping tabs on my site anymore, there will be some new material up in the coming weeks.
On a brighter note, working in the city has been a lot of fun. I’m slowly getting to know the Metro 119 commuting crowd, and they are oh so slowly warming up to me. It seems I’m the youngest person on that bus each morning, by the way. I’m coming to realize that if you’re in your 20’s, aren’t married, and have no kids, you aren’t going to make friends very fast on Vashon. Strange, but surprisingly true… Not to worry, I won’t pop out some babies for the sake of making friends. I joined roller derby instead, which is roughly a thousand times better than having lots and lots of babies.
Although, again, I am one of very few girls who aren’t married and/or have children. Roller derby moms are vicious! I love it. I actually think they have an advantage over me, because they’ve gone through the horror of childbirth, and survived. How could anything scare you after that?
I’ll keep you posted about roller derby shenanigans, and all the artings in between. And remember kids, every time you wear a tie, a little bit of your soul disappears…
