Laboring on Labor Day
Monday, September 1st, 2008 at 5:49 pmI’m working on Labor Day, hooray! Given that most places are closed today, this seemed the perfect time (to management) to move our entire office across the city to our new building in SODO. Excellent. This means, I’ve been boxing up and lugging files, phones, highlighter, desks, and other office miscellany all day! Granted, this new building is roughly a million times better than the last place, and I really should be thankful to be out of our little neighborhood in Belltown. And ( I think ) I’m getting paid time and a half for this, which is nothing to complain about really.
I’m sure there will be a time in the near future when I miss Belltown and the hoard of crazies that hung out there. Who can forget the concrete bench right outside our window, where people dealt and consumed drugs? What will we do when we can’t see the creepy guy self recording his personal-ad video for you-tube? ( Things I learned about that guy: He loves “watching videos on you-tube, kicking it, hates horror movies, loves clean shoes, watching videos on you-tube (for the second time), and hanging with his peeps”. Whatever happened to that guy? Why didn’t he have at least one friend to hold the camera for him? Things you think about while working on 1st and Vine.
Now I’m down in the “crane building”, below all the uber-trendy artists lofts. Yes, I’m jealous of the people upstairs. But I’ll have fresh cakes and bread down here, so at least I have that going for me.
Coolest thing I’ve done today: I picked the lock of our huge file cabinet today with two paperclips!A-mazing. In the moving fray, it was emptied, locked, and then the key disappeared. A big shout out to Andy, who taught me all my hacking skills, and is entirely responsible for any street credibility I may have gained from this stunt. (And oh, I got some. )
Anyways, I’ve labored about all I can today, and isn’t that what labor day is all about?
Peace out cub scouts.
