Hydrate or Die
Monday, July 24th, 2006 at 3:57 pmYou know it’s been too hot when you wake up, see that it’s 85 degrees out at 10 AM and think “oh, that’s not too bad”.
Yikes.
That would be me this morning, and I immediately caught myself and realized that this is ridiculous, and I should have learned by now that top floor apartments in Pullman are pretty much the worst place to be. What was I thinking resigning this lease? I’ll have to contemplate this while laying on my kitchen floor in front of my fan in my swimsuit this afternoon.
So I’m forcing myself to drink at least a waterbottle full of water every thirty minutes to avoid any kind of heat related disaster. If I pass out, no one will be here to rescue me, so that inspires me to keep drinking.
But anyways.
The one good thing about this heat is that I can paint more efficiently! Watercolors are practically dry upon contact with the paper, which makes the whole process go by so much more quickly.
And, being forced to workout inside, I can get some reading done while training for the RSVP, while being in an air conditioned gym. Gotta love multitasking.
I still can’t make up my mind about how I feel towards gyms. I love that I can read while riding a bike there, and the weights are great, but the whole concept is a little wierd when you completely remove that sense of familiarity and look at it for what it really is. I look down the lines of people climbing steps to nowhere and running in place, completely in thier own worlds, plugged into their headsets and watching MTV. It kinda freaks me out actually. Kinda creepy. Like lab rats or something.
Maybe the heats getting to me.
And now for something completely different.
MY INTERNSHIP WORK IS DONE!!!! If I knew of more people in town, and could justifiy spending massive amounts of money on alcohol and cheeseburgers, I’d throw a party. I don’t think I’ve stopped grinning since that burned disc popped out of the drive at 1:01 PM. So now, instead of staying up into the night to type in relatively normal temperatures, I can paint! And read, and write in my journal, and plan this glorious trip that will take place next Friday!! I have a feeling this will be the highlight of my summer, which is pretty spectacular, because this summer has been one of the best I’ve ever had so far.
Some quick watercolor portraits from a little miniseries I did a few weeks ago….
The scribblings are actually observations of people that I make, and the portraits are something of compilation portraits I piece together after a day of people watching. The blue girl is finished, whereas ‘Charlie’s Angel’ is still a work in progress. More stories accompany these, but being that I’ve already typed enough to bore the typical bolg reader, I’ll happily tell them upon request!

A song for baggage claim…..
